Nestled atop the gentle slopes of Hwange National Park’s northwestern foothills lies Deka Camp, a haven for those seeking an authentic African safari experience. As the most remote camp in the park, guests can explore some of the wildest areas of Southern Africa on foot or by game drive, as the camp is situated in its own private concession.
Deka Camp boasts just six units, constructed with thatch, local rock, and canvas, making it ideal for group getaways. The camp overlooks the Deka floodplains and seeps, which serve as the headwaters of the Deka river and provide a captivating backdrop for your stay.
During your stay, take advantage of the morning and afternoon/evening game drives that typically last for three hours each. These drives take you along the river systems and floodplains around the camp, where you’ll encounter a prolific array of wildlife, including herds of elephants and buffalo, large predators, and plains animals.
For a more immersive experience, embark on a walking safari in the morning with armed guides. These leisurely walks allow you to observe the smaller details of the bush that are often missed during a game drive. Walking safaris are subject to weather conditions and the terrain’s condition.
