Fly camping is an overnight experience that truly immerses adventurers in the sounds of the African savannah at night and provides the perfect opportunity to appreciate the big African skies. The campfire is the focal point of the fly camp where we eat our meals and socialise.
This may be a wild adventure but back-to-basics camping does not mean a lack of comfort – drift off to sleep comfortably as you are hugged by soft duvets and down pillows; and dining is generous, wholesome and served with a cold beer or a cool glass of wine.
This experience will take us deep into the wilderness for a night or two, during which we conduct most of our activities on foot, allowing us to be in the bush rather than merely observing it.
Stepping out with knowledgeable guides will immerse all your senses as you uncover the secrets of the Tanzanian wilderness on foot. Longer walking safaris take you into the wilderness areas of Tanzania where vehicles are not allowed. These involve a few nights of fly camping with an experienced guide by your side.
Two of the best places in Africa for these types of walking expeditions are Olkeri Camp in Tarangire and Olmara Camp in the Serengeti National Park. Dedicated fly camps offering multi-night off-road expeditions operate in both camps which take pride in their guides’ intimate knowledge of their environments.
