Little Machaba is a hidden gem in the heart of the Khwai area, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife in the 180,000-hectare Khwai Concession. This reserve is situated in the northeast of the Okavango and is adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve, making it an ideal location for game viewing. Little Machaba, although situated on the same island as Machaba Main Camp, is run separately and offers a unique and exclusive experience. The camp is designed in the classic 1950s style, with luxurious safari tents, en-suite bathrooms, and private outdoor showers. Each tent is built on a wooden deck and the paths leading to them wind their way through the lush riverine trees. The main dining and bar area are also built on wooden decks, providing breathtaking views of the large floodplains.
Mokoro Safari A mokoro safari is a must-do experience at Little Machaba. Glide through the tranquil and shallow waters of the Okavango in a traditional dugout canoe, guided by an experienced poler. These excursions can be arranged as short morning trips or longer day trips. Explore the islands and channels around the camp, watch the birds and wildlife, and return feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Game Drive Game drives are offered twice a day, in the morning and afternoon/evening. These 3-hour drives take place along the river systems and floodplains around the camp, offering guests the chance to see a variety of wildlife including the larger predators, herds of elephant and buffalo, and all the plains animals that occur in this area. Night drives are also offered in the early evening, providing an opportunity to spot the smaller nocturnal animals with spotlights.
Walking Safari Little Machaba also offers walking safaris, generally conducted in the morning with armed guides. These leisurely walks provide an opportunity to observe the smaller things in the bush that one might miss when driving. The walking safaris are weather dependent and may be subject to the terrain’s condition.
