Star Gazing

As the NamibRand is a registered dark sky reserve, offering some of the best stargazing in the world, each room has been equipped with a Star Gazing Extension suite. This second bed, situated on the back of the tent, gives guests the            opportunity to choose if they would like to spend the entire evening under the stars or just a portion – before they retire to their second bed situated inside the tent.

Hot air ballooning

Wake up well before sunrise for a morning that you will not forget in a hurry. Head to the launch site after some tea and coffee, watching while the balloon inflates. You’ll be in the basket and headed upwards just as the sun is rising over the                horizon for your 45-minute flights over the dunes and reserve. As you land you will be greeted with a bubbly breakfast before heading back to camp.

Scenic drive to Sossusvlei. We will aim to be at the gates to the park just prior to sunrise so that we are one of the first vehicles     to arrive. Once we’re inside the park it is a further 45 minutes down to Deadvlei. Once we arrive guests will have the chance to explore, climb the dunes, take photos, and generally have a great time. After lunch you will begin your journey   back to the lodge. Stops en-route in both directions will take place for tea/ coffee breaks and we will aim to be back at the lodge by teatime.

After an early dinner and depending on the weather you can enjoy a leisure drive in the bush. A night game drives is different experience from day game drives. As the heavy sun dips below the African horizon, the world takes on a different scent, sound and shape.

“Sundowners” are a safari tradition – after a day of safari; stop, watch the spectacular sunset; traditionally with a gin and tonic in hand! The views are spectacular, the sunsets and cocktails on the sunset deck are an experience not to be missed.

Game Drive

Guided game drives take place in special build 4×4 safari vehicle. A Game drive gives you the opportunity to see anything from a wide variety of plains game or if you are lucky a run in with the occasional predator. Guests will share game drives unless “exclusive use of vehicle” has been prebooked at an extra charge.

Walking Safari

Guided walks are offered to the more adventurous. A short drive out, and then the fun starts as you experience a whole new way of finding and viewing animals. Be sure to follow every instruction your guide gives you and you will have a great time.

Möwe Bay Excursions

Either on your way to the lodge from Möwe Bay or returning from the lodge, you will see what is left of the victims of this treacherous coastline: Decaying ships, the remains of a Ventura Bomber and the abandoned Westies Diamond Mine bear witness to the unforgiving nature of this arid landscape. Search for desert-adapted elephants

River Excursion

All along the river… Spend your morning exploring the Hoarusib River. Visit the Clay Castles, a striking geological formation. You might even spot the elusive desert-adapted elephants, brown hyenas and lions.

Speeds of up to 80km/h

Dune boarding

For the more adventurous at heart, join us for dune boarding. This is done by lying down on a polished board while you slide down the dune headfirst. Speeds of up to 80km/h can be reached.

Scenic drive over the roaring dunes

Quad Biking

Join one of the guides on a scenic drive over the Roaring Dunes. This excursion will only be conducted in an area specifically allocated for the purpose by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to minimise the effects on the environment.
 The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours and is for one guest per quad. As a safety precaution the minimum age is 16 years.

Meeting Local Communities

Himba and Herero people

Spend time with the local Himba and Herero people, understanding their unique cultures. In the case of the Himbas, they represent one of the last true nomadic tribes of Africa
