As you take off in the morning, your plane soars towards the Atlantic Coast, offering breathtaking views of Eduard Bohlen, a renowned shipwreck that was lost at sea in 1909, and other coastal landmarks like Conception Bay and Sandwich Harbour. After landing in Swakopmund, you'll get to savor a delicious seafood lunch and take a brief tour of the charming town before resuming your journey north. The striking coastline, aptly nicknamed the "gates to hell" by Portuguese sailors, showcases the Atlantic Ocean's immense power as it crashes against the rocky shore, and the remains of shipwrecks are a poignant reminder of its might. Once you land, the friendly staff from Hoanib Valley Camp will transfer you to the camp, where you'll enjoy a sumptuous dinner under the stars.

Day 9: Kaokoveld

Once you've finished your breakfast, the day is yours to explore the extraordinary landscapes, geology, wildlife, and culture of the area. Your morning and afternoon drives, led by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, offer an abundance of specialist knowledge and an opportunity to search for the desert-adapted elephant, giraffe, lion, black rhino, and mountain zebra. If you prefer a more restful day, there are few places better to relax and take in the natural beauty than from the comfort of your private veranda, before indulging in exceptional hosting and dining.

Day 10: Kaokoveld - Skeleton Coast

Today, you’ll experience the thrill of the four-wheel drive adventure to the Skeleton Coast.

The full-day journey is one of the most exhilarating and visually stunning drives on the continent. You'll travel along the ephemeral Hoanib River, home to large herds of elephant, and through the rugged terrain of the Hoarusib River. As you venture further towards the coast, the dry plains transform into a clay-baked landscape and the salty sea breeze picks up. The terrain shifts once again as the landscape turns to towering white sand dunes, creating a dramatic contrast against the clear blue sky. This unique route is only accessible by 4x4, providing a thrilling and exclusive experience.

Day 11: Skeleton Coast

Relish your stay at the acclaimed Shipwreck Lodge, where you can partake in a variety of activities including quad biking, visiting the Clay Castle, and exploring the seal colony. Additionally, you can enjoy game drives, or simply relax and soak up the stunning views. Wildlife sightings at Shipwreck Lodge are abundant and include giraffes, lions, baboons, elephants, and the elusive brown hyena amidst the towering dunes. Along the coast, the Mowe Bay Seal Colony is home to hundreds of Cape fur seals, and you can observe several species of birds darting through the chilly ocean spray.

Day 12: Departure

After a hearty breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the Skeleton Coast and board your light aircraft for a scenic flight back to Windhoek Airport. As you soar through the sky, take one last look at the rugged, breathtaking landscapes that have captured your heart over the past few days.
