Jewels of Malawi

This is a 9 – day journey through Malawi. This country may be one of Africa’s smallest countries but when it comes to exploration and adventure, it has tremendous amounts to offer; from grasslands and forests, mountaintops, unspoilt wildlife parks to Africa’s third largest and most beautiful Lake! Enjoy game drives, walking safaris & boat safari in Majete Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde National Park before you continue to the famous Lake Malawi. Malawi is known as the “Warm Heart of Africa” and as people, the Malawians live up to this name. They are extremely friendly and welcoming.

Day by day program

Day 1: Arrive Malawi

Upon arrival at Blantyre International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our team and escorted to your private transfer to Mkulumadzi, a luxurious camp nestled in the heart of Majete Wildlife Reserve. During the approximately 2.5 hour drive, you will have the opportunity to admire the picturesque landscapes of local villages, farming communities, and unspoilt bush. At the camp, located on the confluence of the Shire and Mkulumadzi River, you can unwind and soak up the serene atmosphere of the wilderness. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure, perhaps taking a dip in the pool or simply relaxing in your comfortable accommodation. A delicious dinner will be served at the lodge, featuring locally sourced ingredients and traditional Malawian flavours.

Day 2 - 3: Majete Wildlife Reserve

Nestled in a breathtaking location, the luxurious lodge offers an array of activities that cater to all types of travelers. You can go on exhilarating game-drives, take a stroll in the bush, hike up Majete Hill, track black rhinos, embark on cultural tours, take birding trips, or even indulge in some peaceful game-viewing from a hide. Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, the lodge has something for everyone. While you have the freedom to be as energetic or as idle as you please, we encourage you to take part in at least one activity per day to fully immerse yourself in the majesty of Majete Wildlife Reserve.

Day 4: Majete Wildlife Reserve - Liwonde National Park

After a delicious breakfast and fond farewells, you will embark on a scenic road transfer to Kuthengo Camp, which will take approximately 3-4 hours. Liwonde National Park, located in Malawi, is a birdwatcher's paradise and is considered one of the best locations in Southern Africa for birding. The park boasts picturesque landscapes, stunning riverine settings, and diverse bird species, making it a dream destination for bird enthusiasts. The park is also home to a thriving population of majestic elephants, which can be spotted during your boat safari on the Shire River, an unforgettable highlight of your stay at Kuthengo Camp.

Day 5: Liwonde National Park

Amidst the stunning wilderness of Liwonde National Park, these days are a nature lover's paradise filled with thrilling experiences. Embark on an exhilarating game drive in an open vehicle or a thrilling safari walk, or take a tranquil boat safari to explore the picturesque Shire River and its lagoons. Witness majestic elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and an array of vibrant birdlife. Keep your eyes peeled for rare species such as Lillian's lovebird, brown breasted barbet, osprey, palmnut vulture, Pel's fishing owl and Livingstone's flycatcher. For a more immersive experience, visit the viewing hide on a tributary of the Shire River or delve into the local school and surrounding rural communities.

Day 6: Liwonde National Park - Lake Malawi

After breakfast you will leave the beautiful Liwonde National Park and head to Lake Malawi, the third largest and most beautiful lake in Africa. This day will likely involve a road transfer of several hours, allowing you to take in the scenic views of the Malawian landscape along the way. Once you arrive at Lake Malawi, you will have the opportunity to settle into your accommodation and take in the beauty of this vast body of water. You may be able to enjoy some leisure time on the beach, take a boat trip to explore the lake, or simply relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. The day is sure to be filled with tranquility, natural beauty, and a sense of peacefulness that can only be found in such a unique and stunning location.

Day 7 - 8: Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi is a stunning natural wonder, renowned for its ecological diversity and crystal clear waters. The lake is home to over a thousand species of fish, including an array of colourful cichlids that are a sight to behold. Explore the best diving spots near one of the islands and indulge in diving courses for an unforgettable experience. For a taste of the authentic Malawian village life, take a guided walk through one of the local villages and interact with the locals who are known for their friendliness. You can also choose to simply relax and soak up the tranquil scenery or participate in other exciting activities.

Day 9: Departure

On your last day at Pumulani, you'll say goodbye to the lodge and prepare to depart. A transfer will be arranged to take you back to Lilongwe in time for your onward journey.
