The stunning view of the blood-red dunes, stretching as far as the eye can see, will leave you in awe. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and assisted with your transfer to Kwessi Dunes lodge, situated in the heart of the magnificent NamibRand Nature Reserve. This is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world and to reconnect with the beauty of nature.
Day 3: Sossuvlei
Today, get ready to immerse yourself in the enchanting beauty of the NamibRand and Sossusvlei region. Whether you choose to indulge in all the activities on offer or simply bask in the tranquility of the area, this day promises to be unforgettable. Namibia is renowned for its stunning landscapes, which are just as captivating as the wildlife. And, the view from the skies is even more spellbinding, but make sure to bring your binoculars, as there’s an incredible diversity of wildlife that roams across these arid plains.
Day 4: NamibRand Nature Reserve - Hoanib Valley Camp
This morning, it's time to board the plane again for a flight towards the Atlantic Coast. As the plane veers northwards, you will pass by the Eduard Bohlen, one of the most famous shipwrecks on the coastline that came adrift in 1909, as well as Conception Bay and Sandwich Harbour. Upon arrival in Swakopmund, you'll enjoy a delicious seafood lunch and a brief tour of the charming town, before continuing north by plane. This rugged coastline was nicknamed the “gates to hell” by Portuguese sailors who had to navigate the powerful currents in their quest to round the Cape of Good Hope, and the Atlantic Ocean’s power is visible from the air as it hits the rocky coastline. From the sky, you can still see the remnants of shipwrecks, a stark reminder of nature's force. The plane will then turn inland towards the Hoanib Valley, where you'll begin to appreciate the mind-boggling vastness of the country. Upon arrival, the team from Hoanib Valley Camp will meet and transfer you to the camp. You'll enjoy dinner under the stars, surrounded by the peacefulness of the desert.
Day 5: Kaokoveld
After enjoying breakfast, it's time to explore the breathtaking area and discover its unique geology, wildlife, and culture. The region is home to the iconic Himba, one of the last great nomadic tribes, as well as the identifiable Herero, offering many opportunities for cultural interaction. The Giraffe Conservation Foundation, a joint venture partner, provides specialist knowledge for your morning and afternoon drives, where you can search for desert-adapted elephants, giraffes, lions, black rhinos, and mountain zebras. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, spend some quiet time on your veranda, contemplating the natural beauty around you before indulging in the exceptional hosting and dining.
Day 6: Kaokoveld - Skeleton Coast
Today, you’ll switch from flying to driving as you make your way towards the Skeleton Coast. The full-day journey offers some of the most breathtaking views on the continent, as you travel along the ephemeral Hoanib River, which is home to large herds of majestic elephants. From there, the route follows the course of the Hoarusib River, where the dry plains give way to a clay-baked landscape. As the salty sea breeze begins to pick up, the landscape changes to white sand dunes, providing a picturesque view.
Day 7: Skeleton Coast
Indulge in the comfort and luxury of Shipwreck Lodge, an award-winning accommodation that promises an unforgettable experience. Your itinerary includes thrilling quad biking, visits to the Clay Castle and seal colony, and game drives, but you may also opt to relax and bask in the breathtaking views. Keep your eyes peeled for the wildlife that inhabits the dunes, such as giraffes, lions, baboons, elephants, and the elusive brown hyena. Along the coast, you will witness hundreds of Cape fur seals at the Mowe Bay Seal Colony, and enjoy the sight of numerous birds fluttering through the chilly ocean spray.
Day 8: Departure
After indulging in a delicious breakfast, it will be time for you to board the light aircraft for your journey to Windhoek Airport. From there, you will proceed to board your international flight. Take in the final sights of this awe-inspiring country from the sky, and reflect on the incredible experiences and memories you have made during your time in Namibia.
