Day by day program

Day 1: Arrive Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you're met by your safari transfer guide who will be waiting outside the arrival terminal and escort you to your private transfer to your lodge for check in, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Ombako - Lake Eyasi fly camp

Breakfast at the lodge followed by a short transfer to Arusha airport. Board a scheduled flight to Manyara airstrip, on arrival meet your safari guide and drive to Lake Eyasi. Arrive for check in and lunch at Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp. In the afternoon, after a thorough guides brief, climb into your open safari vehicle and head out into the hills that skirt Lake Eyasi's Eastern shores. The road drives through the ancestral homeland of the Hadza people, some of the world's most ancient tribes, and one of the last true hunter-gatherers' communities remaining to date. Your first night is set amongst stunning towering rock formation in the hills overlooking magnificent views of Lake Eyasi valley. Upon arrival at camp, you will meet the group of Hadza men and women that shall be your guides and escort you during the coming adventure as you explore their homeland. Time pending, we shall visit a local Datoga boma (Village) nearby, The Datoga people are Nilotic, semi nomad pastoralists who live in the region and co-exist with the Hadza. You spend the night in net tents, on comfortable mattresses, warmed by thick duvets and hot water bottles. Darkness descends as you fall asleep, and stars fill the sky from horizon to horizon.

Day 3: Lake Eyasi fly camp

We wake up early and enjoy fresh coffee brewed over the fire and a light breakfast. Then head out into the hills, escorted by our guides to visit a Hadza encampment, and go hunting, gathering, and hiking with the Hadza into the surrounded woodlands and hills. No two days are identical; the bounty of the season will dictate our activities as well as your own interest. Depending on the season, we might go foraging with the women, dig for roots and tubers, collect berries or trap rodents, or we can range out with the men through the wildlife-rich woodland between towering Baobabs and gnarled acacias, looking for birds and wildlife to hunt. The women are equipped with digging sticks while the men are armed with longbows with poison-tipped arrows and homemade axes used to excavate honey hives. If successful while foraging or hunting, you will be offered to share their caught meal, wild honey, a small antelope, a Francolin, berries, or baobab fruit. After a morning of learning and adventure, we continue on a path down towards the rift valley. Arrive in the afternoon to Ombako camp which has migrated to the lake shore. We will start with a short exploration of the camp area, walking amongst the rocks, viewing ancient rock paintings, or bathing in spring pools under the shade of rocky outcrops. As the sun sets, we will climb the rocks and enjoy a cool drink as we take in the scenery, followed by dinner served around the campfire.
