The sampan

The sampan is another magical dining experience unique to Tongabezi. What better way to celebrate Zambezi living than to wine and dine on this magnificent river? You can expect all senses to be tuned in – a delicious meal with a good bottle of wine, the sunset painting the sky oranges and purples, and the nocturnal sounds of the bush. The sampan dinner is available throughout the year, apart from during the highest river levels, which are usually from March to June.

White Water Rafting

You cannot speak, think, or talk about the Zambezi as though it is a simple stretch of water that gently meanders along a set course. It is a river, a waterfall, and the most magnificent white water rafting corridor on earth! Victoria Falls is a mile long curtain of water that stretches across the glistening basalt rock, erupts into spray, and then thunders into the canyons below. This is the domain of the Nyaminyami, the River God of the Tonga people and is the ‘highway’ for our rafts.

The flight offer spectacular views over Victoria Falls and might be the best way to experience the mighty Victoria Falls. This famous route is called Flight of Angels. The pilot will fly circuits over The Falls in both directions giving guests the best viewing and photographic opportunities. A trip up river and back over the Zambezi National Park completes your flight.

Night Game Drive

Night drives are generally an extension of your afternoon game drive, canoe or walking safari. As the sun begins to set we stop to watch the day come to a close and as dusk falls set off to explore as the nocturnal animals start to emerge. The best chance of seeing genets, civets, elephant shrew, porcupine and the fierce honey-badger is after sunset and the large predators, with the exception of wild dog, are most active at night. Night time birding can be very rewarding with nightjars, owls great and small, dikkop, bat hawk and coursers are all abundant.

4x4 vehicle safari

Game Drive

Game Drive in special build 4×4 safari vehicles. The vehicles are unrivalled with feature enhancements specifically designed for comfort and photography. Driving safaris are all conducted in open 4X4 vehicles (Land Cruiser or Land Rover) with either two or three ‘rows’ of seats. Guests will share gamedrives unless “exclusive use of vehicle” has been prebooked at an extra charge.

Although the guides are expert bird twitchers who can help you with your must-see list, you can improve your chances of a successful outing by investing in a good pair of binoculars and researching which species to look for. Silence is also a birder’s best friend and we recommend taking a guided bird walk in the bush.

At the Chiawa Cultural Village, visitors will embark on a guided tour where they will learn about the lives of the Goba people, their traditions, trades, tools, edifices and arts including dance, song and handiwork of local craftspeople.

One of the world’s top game fish

Fishing

The Lower Zambezi is home to the tiger fish, nicknamed the “water dog,” whose sharp teeth are matched only by its fighting spirit and reputation as one of the world’s top game fish. Fishing can be combined with game activities and all equipment is provided, with both conventional tackle and entry level fly rods available. Canoeing

One of the most leisurely ways to experience the sights and sounds of the Lower Zambezi valley is on a canoe safari. Our canoes seat two guests and a guide in comfort, with ample room for cameras and binoculars. Canoeing offers you a completely different perspective as you glide gently along either the Zambezi and its beautiful channels or the Chongwe River, allowing you to fully appreciate the magical beauty of this incredible area and the creatures and plants that inhabit it.
